The body of a woman in her 50s has been pulled from a canal in East London, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed.

Emergency service crews recovered her remains on Wednesday morning in the River Lee Navigation in Homerton, Hackney.

Despite the efforts of police officers and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Scotland Yard’s Marine Support Unit were also in attendance.

A spokesman for the force said: “Cordons remain in place and an investigation is under way to identify the female and inform her next of kin.”

No arrests have been made so far.
